Identifying Extra-tidal Stars in the center of the Milky Way
I am a professor in the Physics & Astronomy Dept. at Western Washington University. I teach astronomy and physics classes, and work with collaborators to understand how the Milky Way's stars and clusters form and evolve.
Our research is primarily driven by data from large astrophysical surveys (e.g., the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, the European Space Agency's Gaia mission, and soon, the Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time. I also use ground- and space-based observatories to collect data (typically optical and near-infrared spectra) for targeted investigations.
